Those post-work chill-out hours are so important, and now when I walk into this room I feel immediately happy and more relaxed, it’s pretty astonishing. Let your 3-year old daughter eat buttery popcorn on it (ok maybe not) but seriously, for a relatively small investment, it’s SO worth it. (In this shot you can see the old air-co wall-unit from the ‘before’ peeking into picture - we plan to have HVAC installed next year but to keep things pretty, we moved things around and put the sectional on the back wall) Here are some more pretty shots, ya know, for Pinterest and stuff ) It’s amazing how one piece of furniture can make a whole room come together almost instantaneously. Then (of course) I garnished with a ton of plants. The curtains are indigo panels from Mali (found at the Santa Monica Flea market), the baskets on the wall were a gift that Dabito brought back for me from his trip to South Africa, and then there’s my Juju hat (that big, round, feathered blue yumyum). First I added bunch of pillows from my new collection with Loloi (coming out next month) and some African and African-inspired accessories (remember this post I did on Afribo?) The table is a vintage, Moroccan carved wood table with a brass tray in it. Once the sofa was in here, I was reinvigorated and inspired to style up the whole room in true jungalow fashion. It’s surprisingly difficult to find a small yet spacious sectional that’s stylish, affordable and not a total yawn fest - but I think we found one! What I love about the sofa, (besides that Jason and I can comfortably chill out /snuggle on it together) is that it’s got those sexy mid-century lines going on…(see the peg legs?)Īlso, the fabric color is that perfect teal and brings that bluhemian vibe that I love. As for fabric/color choice we went with Bennett Peacock, but there were tons of fabrics and colors to choose from. What!?! So good right? We chose the Leo Sectional and customized it by putting the chaise on the left side. I took a bunch of notes and photos at the showroom (and truly, they were all super comfortable.) Then once I got back home, Jason, Ida and I looked over all the photos and notes, cross referenced with the Jonathan Louis website, and decided on this: There were a ton of choices, really, and then on top of all of the style choices, we were also able to customize the sectional to fit our exact needs/wants for the room. Jonathan Louis is a family-owned business from right here in Los Angeles that designs, makes and sells their high quality (and affordable!) upholstered yummies at places like Macy’s, Living Spaces and ZGallerie ( click here to find a retailer near you). I also got to meet the owner, Javier, who has twin boys Ida’s age (OMG!) - so he totally gets what it’s like to be looking for something practical but also stylish. While visiting the High Point Furniture Mart a few months back, I had a chance to visit the Jonathan Louis showroom and test drive (test-sit?) about 50 different sofas to find my favorite. As much as I love white linen and mid-century sofas, that just wasn’t gonna cut it. Since we have a three-year old and a cat, it also needed to be practical. I wanted to hold out until we found the perfect thing: big enough for the whole family to spread out on, but small enough to (not only fit through the doors in our house) but to look good in this small room. Needless to say, this was neither cute nor cozy - at all. And, when I walked into this room I felt quietly bummed out. programs from a leftover twin bed, masked with lots of pillows, trying (unsuccessfully) to pass it off as a daybed. Up until now, we’ve been watching our favorite T.V. I also keep my clothing overflow in this room because the house (and especially the master bedroom) doesn’t have a ton of closet space. We decided to turn the extra bedroom into a family room / TV room so that the TV didn’t become the focal point of our (super tiny) living room. Our new house is awesome and I love it, but it came with its fair share of design conundrums - the biggest one being that even though its a three bedroom, all of the rooms are very small.
